"fly pan am playfully explore the tensions between modernist tropes and pop irreverence without succumbing to cloying irony or mock seriousness. the straight-up metronomic drumming, with its obstinate refusal to add flourishes or fills, establishes a foundation upon which bass and guitar lines weave and shift with a naïve rigour. the music is sometimes wilfully infuriating in its pursuit of an idea (i.e. track 3, which after a lovely series of harmonic changes, culminates in the repetition of a half-tone interval for over 10 minutes, while the digitalia of local electronic/actuelle musician alex st.onge takes over), and challenges the listener to construct an underlying narrative out of sonic collage (i.e. tracks 2 & 4, each in three parts). tape-based experimentation by all the members of the group add drones, transitional accents, and abrupt interruptions to the live band material."
