Vic's friends

“The most important story to report now is not Vic’s death but a life and work overflowing with insight, humor, and yes, resilience. This, after all, was the man who wrote: “I thought I had a calling, anyway, I just kept dialing.” Sixteen extraordinary albums, five in the last couple of years; countless live shows so powerful and sublime they deeply altered the lives of those on the stage with Vic and those looking up, yes up, at him. The second most important story here has to do with a broken health care system depriving so many of the help they need to stay around and stay sane, and a society that never balks at providing more money for more wars but fights tooth and nail against decent care for its citizens. Vic’s death, just so you all know, did not come at the end of some cliché downward spiral. He was battling deep depression but also at the peak of his powers, and with the help of friends and family he was in the middle of a desperate search for help. The system failed to provide it. I miss him terribly. "

2009 foi o ano da arte contemporânea em mim. Em janeiro, descobri o Jonathan Safran Foer. Em fevereiro, salvei uma gatinha que encontrei num saco de lixo. Um prédio começou a ser construído e nos (a Juliana está morando comigo desde novembro de 2008) tortura auditivamente até hoje. Comprei um pedal de distorção ProCo Turbo Rat, "o pedal do Sonic Youth". Em abril, entrei na oficina literária do Charles Kiefer. Em maio, finalmente fiz o módulo 1 do workshop de processo criativo do Charles Watson, o que me fez quebrar os muros fictícios que havia em mim entre uma arte e outra, iniciar uma longa jornada de leituras interessantes (adentrando a multidisciplinariedade da biologia e culminando na teoria da complexidade de Edgar Morin) e perceber que a oficina do Kiefer não era, definitivamente, o meu lugar. Em junho, mergulhei no oceano em busca de artistas plásticos com os quais me identifico. Foi lindo. Julho começou com o evento Teratonia 3, quando pude colocar em prática, junto com a Juliana, a descoberta da ausência de fronteiras entre os rótulos da criação. Foi lindo também, sobretudo o visual da apresentação do input_output. Projetamos vídeos de 30 segundos em loop, os quais eu acumulei desde que adquiri minha câmera fotográfica digital. O cenário foi uma sala, com sofá, cabideiro, abajur e uma televisão, ora com estática, ora com as mesmas imagens do telão, só que fora de sincronia. Ju revelou-se uma promissora performer. 2009 foi o ano do selo virtual Sinewave, tanto na expansão da sua importância e de seu catálogo como um todo, depois da morte de alguns outros selos reais e virtuais, quanto no lançamento do 'Segundo andar' do Hotel e no relançamento de todos os trabalhos de que participei, exceto por enquanto do Pelicano. Ainda em julho tive um surto de ideias para esculturas, mas no fim das contas tive consciência de que foi apenas um surto. Em agosto, um novo amigo português, Diogo Barros, graças ao Sinewave, tocou uma música dos Blanched num programa seu, e uma do input_output noutro, ambos na Rádio Universitária de Coimbra. Obrigado mais uma vez. Em setembro, o Porto Alegre Em Cena fez-me ver o Bob Wilson e a Isabelle Huppert e me inscrever na oficina de processos híbridos do João de Ricardo (Teresa e o aquário). Assim, adentrei no mundo da performance e quebraram-se os muros entre arte e vida. E mais, esse meu movimento na direção do João rendeu o convite para eu participar da equipe de sua próxima "peça", Homem que não vive da glória do passado. Em outubro, vi 'Anticristo', mais uma obra-prima do mestre Lars Von Trier. Marcante, transformador. Em novembro foi a vez da astronomia entrar na minha sopa "interdisciplinar" (façamos de conta de que existe mais de uma disciplina). Aprendi muito sobre a relação da Terra com o Sol, o que resultará numa performance do input_output no próximo dia 9, no Gasômetro, num evento chamado Temporal. O ano foi de muitas listas, pois este é o último ano da década. As descobertas cognitivas no processo criativo do Homem são muitas, praticamente uma pós-graduação "à distância" sem reconhecimento do MEC. Pesquisas e mais pesquisas, conexões e mais conexões, belezuras e mais belezuras. Comprei o sintetizador Alesis Micron, que era do Mateus D'Almeida - da Andina e do input_output LIVE. Isto completou o meu setgear para operar os sons do Homem: ele, o sintetizador Roland JX-3P, a loopstation Boss RC-20x, um laptop com interface M-Audio Fast-Track USB, a guitarra com quatro pedais e o amplificador. Assim, o input_output pode tocar em qualquer ocasião.
